动词play的用法

Play用作动词时既可作及物动词又可作不及物动词，关于它的用法，初中教材中出现了一些不问的例句。为帮助同学们对该单词的学习和运用，现归纳整理如下：
一、play用作不及物动词时其主要意思是“玩、玩耍，游乐”。词组play with 则是“玩弄…，耍弄…”介词with后常跟事物名词或动物名词，例：
1. The children are playing on the grass. 孩子们在草地上玩。
2．We have all played with snow and ice. 我们都玩过雪和冰。
3．Children must not play with fire．孩子们！一定不能玩火。
二、play用作及物动词时，用法较多，就课本中出现的有以下几种：
I．表示“打球”、“下棋”。但要注意，在球类和棋类前不用定冠词。例：
1．Let’s go and play basketball．(JB I P117)． 咱们去打篮球吧。
2. Did you watch us playing tennis yesterday afternoon? (JB V P66)
昨天下午你观看了我们打网球吗，
3．Sometimes they played cards together. 有时它们在一起打牌。
II. 表示“和…比赛”。既可说play against sb.，还可以省去介词against．直接用play sb.表示．例
1. Who are you going to play? (JB III p13) 你们将和谁比赛？
2．I’ll play against you in the next time if you 1ike． 假如你愿意的话我愿和你再下一盘。
3. Your school team will play against ours this afternoon．
你们校队和我们(校队)今天下午比赛。
III. 表示“弹、拉、演奏某种乐器或曲子”。但要注意，在表示乐器的名词前一定要用定冠词．例：
1．I played the violin．(JB III P40) 我拉小提琴。
2. She put her heart into it and she played wonderful1y． (JB Ⅳ P107)
她全神贯注，弹得很漂亮。
3．He will play the last piece．(JBⅣ P108)
他要演奏最后一支曲子。
三、另外play和某些词连用构成一些惯用语。如play the game(做游戏)，play the match(进行比赛)，play a trick on…(捉弄…)，play a joke on…（开…的玩笑)．例：
1. I’ll show you how to play the game.我来把这个游戏做给你看看。
2．This week they will play three friendly matches. 本星期它们将要进行三场友谊比赛。
3．Once there was a very naughty rabbit. He liked to play jokes on others．(JB V P28)
从前有只调皮的兔子，它喜欢捉弄别个。
4．Mark Twain，the famous American writer, liked to play jokes on others． (JB IV P64)
著名的美国作家马克·吐温喜欢开别人的玩笑。
