different /ˈdifərənt/ adj.不同的 (常与介词from连用，英口语中常用to,美口语中常用than)：A goat is different from a sheep.山羊和绵羊是不同的。They have different approaches to teaching. 他们的教学方法不同。British cars are different than ours. 英国造的汽车和我们的不一样。 They come from different parts of the world. 他们来自四面八方。
［辨析］different to 和 different than在AmE.和BrE.中都被接受，有些讲英语的人用different to, 有些讲美语的人用different than, 老师和考官们并不喜欢这两种用法。various指的是several not the same,因此后面要跟复数名词。different 可跟pl.也可跟sing.及不可数名词，比较的对象可不说出。
