almost /ˈɔ:lməust/ adv. 几乎，差不多(修饰动词时放在主要动词前面或系动词、情态动词和助动词后面)： He slipped and almost fell. 他滑了一跤，几乎摔倒。Dinner is almost ready.晚饭差不多准备好了。She wrote her mother almost daily since she left home. 她自从离家几乎每天都给母亲写信。It’s almost time to start.动身的时候差不多到了。

［辨析］ 修饰动词、形容词、副词和名词时，almost常可与nearly换用。在与no, none, nothing, never等否定词连用时，用almost, 不用 nearly。如： Almost no one believed her. He said almost nothing worth listening to. 但在与not连用时，只能用nearly,不能用almost。not nearly 的意思是“远没有”、“远不够”。如：The money is not nearly enough for my journey. (钱远不够我做路费。)
