affirm /əˈｆə:ｍ/ vt. 1. 断言，坚持声称：He affirmed his love for her. 他坚持说他爱她。He affirmed that he was telling the truth. 他再三强调自己讲的是实话。2.证实，确认：We affirm these statements to be true. 我们确认这些陈述都是真的。
［辨析］affirm6 指肯定地“称”或在回答提问时“声称”。allege6为正式用语但不用进行时态，指在没有证据或在找到证据前的“断言、声称”。assert指有力地或信心十足地“陈述、声称”，具有很强的主观色彩。这三个词的宾语都可以是一个名词(短语)或that从句，而assert和affirm6 还可接复合宾语，如：She asserted/affirmed the charge to be incorrect.
